On June 9 and 10, 2015, during
the celebration of the new date in the Jewish religious calendar – the Day of
Salvation and Liberation, Torah scrolls were brought into several synagogues in
Israel. The ceremonies were dedicated to the memory of the millions who died in
World War II. The events timed to coincide with the introduction of the scrolls
were attended by numerous guests, among whom were deputies, rabbis, public
figures, diplomats from Israel, Azerbaijan and Russia. All speakers noted the
importance and necessity of introducing the new date into the Jewish calendar,
as well as its significance for the Jewish people. Isai Zakharyyaev, on behalf
of the President of the STMEGI Foundation, German Zakharyaev, thanked all those
present, and above all those who were the first to support the initiative of 26
Iyar: Rabbi Israel Meir Lau, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, Rabbi David Lau, Rabbi Pinchas
Goldshmidt and Rabbi Chaim Kanevski.
On May 31, 2019, Jews from Russia, the CIS countries and abroad celebrated the Day of Salvation and Liberation, dedicated to the victory over Nazism in World War II.
May 21, 2014 in New York, at the headquarters of the United Nations, under the guidance of Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations Ron Prosor and with the participation of Israeli Interior Deputy Minister Faina Kirschenbaum an important meeting was held, at which a new date for the Jewish calendar was announced
