The Day of Salvation and Liberation - 2014

May 21, 2014 in New York, at the headquarters of the United Nations, under the guidance of Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations Ron Prosor and with the participation of Israeli Interior Deputy Minister Faina Kirschenbaum an important meeting was held, at which a new date for the Jewish calendar was announced. On May 21, Israel's chief rabbis took part in the commencement of the writing of the Torah scrolls in Jerusalem, which symbolize the rebirth and immortality of the Jewish people. The ceremony at the Western Wall was attended by dozens of yeshiva heads and respected rabbis. The main ceremony dedicated to the new holiday – 26 Iyar – took place in the Knesset. Speaking from the rostrum of the Knesset, German Zakharyayev once again spoke about his idea and stressed that everything must be done so that the tragedy of Jewish people during World War II never recurs, as well as to preserve the memory of the heroism of the soldiers and to fight against manifestations of neo-Nazism and anti-Semitism in Europe and the post-Soviet states.
